For a child or young person, assessment may include parent or carer developmental information, the young person’s own account and school or other setting information where appropriate. Consent, assent, confidentiality and report recipients are agreed before assessment starts.
Assessment begins with the person’s reasons for seeking clarity, their language preferences, support needs and what they hope the process will help them understand.
Online work is not suitable in every situation. Age, communication, risk, complexity, jurisdiction and the purpose of the report all influence the appropriate route.

The pathway may include developmental interview, clinical conversation, questionnaires, observation and information from a relative or other source, with consent.
Current presentation may reflect years of conscious compensation. ADHD, anxiety, trauma, language, learning and other factors should also be considered.
Feedback should explain the evidence and uncertainty, recognise strengths and suggest realistic changes across home, work, education and relationships.
Different reports may be needed for personal understanding, a GP, education, employment or another professional. The practice does not promise that every third party will accept every report. The purpose, recipient and requested evidence should be clarified in advance.
Where medical treatment, legal evidence or statutory processes are involved, separate requirements may apply.
Information for referring professionals

A private enquiry can normally be made directly. NHS referral routes and local availability vary, so current local pathways should be checked with a GP or the relevant NHS service.
Assessment can still be discussed. The clinician considers available records, the person’s account and other evidence, while being transparent about limitations.
Masking refers to conscious or learned efforts to hide, compensate for or manage autistic traits in order to meet social expectations. It can affect how obvious traits appear in a brief appointment.
No. A balanced assessment should identify strengths, preferred communication, sensory needs, interests, coping strategies and environments that enable the person to function well.

Public ADHD, autism and healthcare pathways differ across the four UK nations. Use the nation specific guide for local public service context while the private clinical service and published fees remain consistent.
Private autism assessment is available through Focused Care Psychology for clients in the United Kingdom. The published fee is from £1,250. The pathway is structured around developmental and current evidence, feedback and the agreed written report output. A free 15 minute consultation is available before booking. Psychologists do not prescribe medication.
Some autism assessment pathways can include secure remote appointments when clinically appropriate. Suitability depends on age, communication needs, available developmental information, the assessment question and whether the necessary evidence can be gathered reliably online.
